What I love about this house, which is perched in the hills above Windsor, California, is that the whitewashed Mediterranean faÁade doesnít hint at the modern décor inside.

This house was really built to showcase art. For example, the platforms in the marble entryway are a perfect place for two dramatic bronze statues. The staircase, with its curves and angles, makes a modern statement as does the spherical sculpture at its base.

Because the house is exposed to a lot of sun, I chose light-colored paints to keep things feeling cool in the daytime. At the same time, I tried to keep things feeling comfortable and warm by using vibrant yellow couches in the living room and textured window coverings in the den.

Most importantly, because this villa was built for both indoor and outdoor living I purposefully designed the transitions to be as seamless as possible. The doors are a real focal point because everything flows outward from them, including the art. Thatís why youíll see whimsical and colorful sculptures spilling out onto the terrace.
